Most of you know that this is Chase’s second year in the
preschool associated with the YMCA near us. We have been very fortunate that he
loves it and the teachers are wonderful. Yet another reason for us to be
thankful! The teachers and kids work very hard from just before Thanksgiving
until the night of the program to put together a program for all their family
and friends. This year was no different – well, except maybe a little! Chase is
now in the Monday-Thursday 4 year old class and he has made some amazing
friends and kept a couple from last year as well.
To commemorate the program this year, we decided to go out to eat for dinner (something
we haven’t done lately because the triplets are not very cooperative when
trying to eat out in public) so off we went. We were going to try our favorite
Italian place but I found out that Santa was coming that same night so we went
to Plan B – Rudino’s for pizza and grinders (hot subs for those who don’t know
of it). Chase was excited to find out that Daddy would be joining us for dinner
and the program but his night got better when we arrived and Grandma, Mom-Mom
and Pop-Pop were there as well. He was over the moon to learn that they were
not only having dinner with us, but also coming to his program. Dinner went off
with very few incidents (including keeping everyone and their clothes clean for
the performance that night). We arrived at the Church where the preschool meets
and dropped Chase in his classroom and went to find our seats. They decided
this year to reserve the front row for the parents of the class that was
performing so you could get some pictures of your kids – GREAT IDEA! We waited
patiently (well, as patiently as triplets who are almost 2 and an 87 year old
great-grandfather can) for the show to start. As the classes entered the
sanctuary, Jason and I could tell that Chase was looking for us. You see, it
just happened that our seats were on the opposite side of the room so he
scanned and scanned until he saw us. Then he smiled and his eyes lit up with
delight as he waved until I thought his arm would fall off. However, we got
nothing compared to his next surprise! You see, earlier in the day our sitter,
Whitney, asked me about this program. A couple of the kids in Chase’s class,
who she knows from summer camp, asked if she was coming. I explained what it
was and she mentioned she might try to come. Well, she arrived about 5 minutes
after Chase entered the sanctuary. When he saw her, I thought he was going to
jump out of his skin! My eyes still get teary remembering how excited he was at
the sight of her. If that isn’t unconditional love, I don’t know what it! That
boy (and the others) LOVE her as much as I do.
We waited while the other classes performed and then it was
time for Chase to get up on stage. We moved our ‘crew’ to the front row and
Chase’s teacher realized that he was on the opposite side of the stage from us.
What did she do? Moved him to our side – love her too! When the music started
(Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree), Chase started singing and dancing like I
have never seen him move before! My child is a SHOWBOAT! He was so funny and so
proud of himself when it was all over. We clapped and cheered for what seemed
like an eternity and he just grinned and waved! At the end of the program, we
joined the class for a Christmas party and visited with everyone (Whitney
included!)
Jason and I both laughed when we thought about the
possibility of all 4 boys performing next year! I am not sure the public is
ready for that one!
I am pretty sure the picture below tell the story in and of themselves as well!
