Picking Strawberries and ready for summer!

Chase’s preschool class was taking a trip to a local strawberry patch to pick some strawberries so the boys and I decided to tag along. After bad weather and no strawberries postponing the first attempt we got beautiful weather and a great outing.

We started by playing in the hay maze before hopping on a tractor to ride around  the farm including a stop in the barn to look at the cows. The farm is also the home to some beef cows – black Angus and a cross-breed. There was a 500 pound black angus cow and a 2 week old calf. While the smell of the barn left a lot to be desired, the boys mooed and mooed with the cows. I am convinced there was a conversation taking place. We then finished our tractor ride and learned about the strawberries. After our lesson, we were sent on our way with our containers to pick strawberries. The farmer explained that you wanted to reddest berries you could find so we set out looking for “RED”. Good thing I had put all the boys in red shirts so we kept using that as a reference.

I am going to brag a little when I tell you that all the boys (little ones too) did really good jobs of only picking the red berries. Every time they would pick one, they would say, ‘red’. I wasn’t sure they would be able to tell the difference and then be able to remember it but they did a great job. Guess all those shows and puzzles really are helping them learn something!

We picked our berries, played some more and then went out for a special field trip lunch with Grandma. We had strawberry pancakes and grilled cheese (don’t ask – it’s a kid thing). They were all so good that it makes me think I might be able to start doing more of those types of outings. Good thing since summer is fast approaching.

The weather has been really warm. Scratch that, the weather has been HOT at times. Enough so that we can get out the water toys in the backyard and play – even when the rain comes! It makes me ready for the pool and more warm weather to wear everyone out and have a good night sleep!

We have had friends and their kids over for dinner and some play time (of course the zip line was in action) and then just last night we had another gathering at the house. We ended up with 12 adults and 18 kids here for a cookout and some fun. We had a great time and plan to do these gatherings a few times a year. As I explain to people, I don’t mind hosting because I know my house/yard is triplet proof and that kids of all ages (even adult ones) can have a good time.  We are so lucky to have met such good friends and we enjoy spending time together with all of them.

Chase has his last day of school on Thursday so this week is full of special activities and then let the games begin! I have to admit I am both excited and nervous about the summer. If things go well at our first pool visit, I foresee us spending most days there to help burn some energy and play with our friends. Hopefully I will remember to keep my camera charged and will be ready to capture some of the chaos – I mean fun! Then again, it is hard to get them to stay still long enough to get any shots of all of them so I will have to take what I can get!
